Hello all!
My name is Amethyst, and I am helping one of the most caring, inspiring, hard-working people I know while she is navigating a challenging financial time. Below is what she wanted to share about her story.
"My name is Vania and I currently am in my final year in the Bachelors of Social Work program at Portland State University. I am a DACA recipient and first generation college student. I am from North Portland (been there for 16 years) and live with my family which consists of my mom and two brothers who are in the pictures. I normally don’t ask for much help, but my family and I are in a really tight financial situation to where we could potentially loose our housing in a rapidly gentrifying neighborhood. We were able to secure new housing for January 1st that could meet our income (since we have to leave our current place due to rent increases) but our current place does not have an ending lease until January 31st. They are requiring us to pay January's rent for the spot we are moving out of as well as the first month of rent for the new place. We will include a breakdown of what the money is needed for. I am currently a full-time student who works 2 jobs - one of them being an unpaid internship required per my education. My mom works incredibly hard as well while also raising her kids. After multiple people suggested, we finally decided to start a gofundme to make sure we won’t loose our new housing. We would appreciate any financial help, and are extremely thankful. We are asking $2,740 for the following needs; $500 to move into our new place, $800 for January’s rent at the new place, $1,360 for the old place’s January rent, and $80 to balance the taxing of gofundme. Thanks in advance <3"
