Help Chad Fight Stage 4 Cancer
Donation protected
Two and a half years ago the Evenson Family's foundation was definitely shaken.
Chad found a lump on his right side of his neck in September of 2018. After many appointments and a biopsy, too much wasted time, the specialist missed diagnosed him. They were not comfortable with this, so they asked their Doctor to see a new specialist in 2019. After another inconclusive biopsy the new doc opted for surgical biopsy to get answers in September 2019. Surgery was way bigger than they initially thought but they had the answer. Head & Neck Cancer.
November 2019 started 35 rounds of radiation to neck and three rounds of chemotherapy traveling back and forth to Kelowna daily, staying when they had to. Chad and Pam still had to work and had cows to feed (thank god for their family).
Chad finished radiation January 2, 2020, and spent 8 days in Kelowna hospital to get him stabilized. It took months to heal from radiation. Chad had a feeding tube and all because he couldn’t swallow. April 9th, 2020 Chad had a PET scan that told them the neck was clear but it had spread to the bones. Spine and top of pelvis.
Chad started immunotherapy at the end of May to November 2020. Chad had more scans and a biopsy that showed that it was still spreading. In the last year Chad has had probably had 20 radiation treatments to manage bone pain, then started him on methotrexate. His pain was getting worse and worse so that was obviously was not working. BC Cancer said they basically could make him comfortable. So at this point they had to go elsewhere.
They got a referral to Dr. Klimo in North Vancouver and saw him January 25, 2021. He immediately (the next day) sent Chad for a PET scan that revealed that it was still spreading.
Dr. Klimo has started Chad on a new program in a private infusion clinic. Dr. Klimo has been able to get some of the drugs covered but as of now it’s costing $1000.00 a week plus Scans, travel and hotels. Chad also needs to see a naturopath which is important for the whole healing process, but is not covered.
Dr. Klimo believes in a whole range of treatments and totally thinks outside the box and has great results.
For the last year and a half Chad has been in active treatment. It has put a huge strain on the family, and has Pam, their children Cassidy and Brayden having to really step up to help with running the family farm, family business and being their for their husband & (dad) and its wearing on them.
They have tried to go through this privately, but they have reached out and they need help. Both Chad and Pam feel very blessed with their family and close friends helping them with all that they can. They truly believe they could not have gotten through this past treatment without them.
Being away from their home and business and cows has put a strain on everyone but now everyone is stretched pretty thin.
They have all been so effected by COVID, as has everyone. Part of their livelihood each year consists of their calves going to all the pro rodeos in Canada and with all the rodeos cancelled last year things came to a grinding halt. It is hopeful this year with Calgary being a go.
Like everyone they are grateful that spring is just around the corner.
Chad's love is for his family, his horses and cattle & rodeo and roping. He gets so much pleasure in doing things outside with his family, especially helping his son, Brayden with his roping. Because of his pain, this has not happened as often as they'd like.
Chad and his family have a passion for raising top notch Corriente cattle for timed events at rodeos in Canada, so any help to get him back to fighting form so he can do what he loves and get him back in the saddle would be greatly appreciated!
Please help in any way you can, Chad is a young dad of two amazing kids Cassidy (Warren ) and Brayden and husband to Pam. Chad has so much to live for and has some exciting things coming in May as his and Pam's first grandchild will be born!
They would give the shirt off their backs to help others, so now its our turn to help them in any way we can!
