Help a Colorado Teacher Survive an Unpaid Retaliation Fight

My name is Rob Rogers, and I am organizing this fundraiser to support Dr. Angelica "Angel" Givler-Viers, known to many as Dr G .

Angel is a public school teacher in Colorado Springs. In October, she was removed from her classroom and placed on administrative leave. Not long after, the district superintendent recommended her termination. Public reporting points to alleged "unprofessional conduct" related to social media and alleged violations of leave conditions. Angel disputes that she did anything wrong.

This did not happen in isolation. Angel has been a visible, outspoken advocate alongside her colleagues and the teachers union during a period when the district dismantled a decades-long collective bargaining agreement. She spoke publicly about what those changes would mean for educators and for classrooms. To people who have been paying attention, the timing and severity of the district's response raise serious concerns. It reads less like accountability and more like a message. Speak up, and this is the cost.

Since being placed on leave, Angel has been barred from district property and prohibited from communicating with her students or the families she served. She is allowed limited contact with colleagues, but even that is tightly constrained. She is technically still employed, but Colorado law limits how long a teacher continues to receive pay during a dismissal process. Angel has now been told that her due-process hearing will not occur until after that paid period ends. These delays all but guarantee she will not return to the classroom this school year. She will not even be allowed to say goodbye to the students she was teaching.

And that part is devastating.

Angel is heartbroken. Teaching is not something she clocks into. It's how she shows up in the world. Being cut off so abruptly, erased from her classroom, and denied any sense of closure has taken a real emotional toll. The silence is not neutral. It is a punishment of its own.

A couple of years ago, Angel invited me to spend a day with her in her classroom. What she does, hour by hour, is extraordinary. But there is one moment I will never forget, and I have told this story many times because it says everything about who she is.

Early in the day, a new student was brought into her class. It was their first day. English was not their first language. Anyone who has spent time in a classroom knows how hard that moment can be, for the student and for the teacher. Angel wanted that student to feel included and capable right away. During independent reading time, she set them up with a laptop and headphones. I could hear the book they were listening to. And then it clicked. I recognized the voice.

It was Angel's.

She records entire books on her own time for ESL students when an audio version is not available. Entire books. No recognition. No extra pay. Just care, translated into effort. That is who she is. That is what has been taken away from her, at least for now.

I'm raising funds to help Angel cover basic household living expenses and essential costs during this forced gap. But this fundraiser is about more than money. It is about giving her the stability to endure a process designed to wear people down. It is about dignity, and about making sure she is not punished into silence by attrition.

Any support, whether through donating or sharing, truly matters. Systems like this count on exhaustion and isolation to finish the job quietly. This fundraiser is one way to interrupt that plan and give Angel the time and space she deserves.

The takeaway is simple. When a system tries to break someone by dragging out the clock, solidarity is how you stop it.
