I'm Catherine and I have created this GoFundMe to help someone I've known since 1992/93.
Liz is like you and me: an extremely focused and hard working individual. She's built out a successful career in the art world spending decades either managing companies like Museum Quality Discount Framing, creating and selling art and in teaching art to college students. For almost a decade, she was on the teaching staff at Pacific Northwest College of Art (PCNA) focused on teaching classes in ceramics. She's also taught ceramics at other well known companies in Portland such as Matt Dishman. In addition, Liz has helped develop art programs for kids at multiple organizations in the Portland area. She's even been featured on local PNW news in the past year for an outdoor art installation project in downtown Portland to bring awareness to environmental issues. Here is a link to that story: https://www.kgw.com/mobile/video/news/local/black-snake-in-portlands-waterfront-park/283-37fe01bf-8e5b-433c-a8af-f75dd00ec5aa
If you've ever met Liz, you know how kind and GIVING she is. And, she has gifted many of her artistic creations over the years.
Through no fault of her own, Liz had a string of bad LUCK impacting her life recently. She was in a car crash, sending her to the ER for head trauma and leaving her with medical bills. Then, covid led to the closing of the PCNA's in person classes and all her courses were cancelled since they require an in-person presence. This left her scrambling to re-build a career at 53 and struggling to make ends meet while quickly running through her reserves.
Now in November of 2021, doing odd jobs and anything possible to earn even a portion of prior earnings, and while simultaneously dealing with her recent head trauma, severe carpel tunnel and mental health issues, Liz is facing eviction. Her eviction notice was received last week.
She is extremely disheartened, beyond stressed and said she could not bring herself to ask for help from anyone. This is why I am sharing this GoFundMe, as she's about to be pushed into living out of her vehicle. This could be any of us, especially if hit with a string of bad luck.
The good news is that she's got several new job prospects lined up in her career in the art world. However, she will do anything and everything needed to get back on her feet, including living out of her car until she can find a new home. This, I hope will not be her near future.
Liz's eviction notice requires paying the back three months owed ASAP plus the next month's rent. She's got medical bills on top of this that she's still paying. If you find it within your heart to help someone you don't know and if you are able to do so, this will help her stay off the streets, secure a new job and get back to the person she was before everything came crashing down because of covid closures.
