Help a Classroom Become a Base for Learning

Who are you donating to and why?

Hello, my name is Donche Golder and I'm fundraising to invest in the future of my students.

We all understand the importance of obtaining a proper education and we have all heard how difficult it is teaching, but that's not what I'm here to discuss. I'm here to discuss the importance of providing said proper education to the students of Baltimore City, especially amidst a teacher shortage.

As a native and resident of Baltimore City, I recognize the beauty and struggle of our city. I grew up on the west side of Baltimore City attending Alexander Hamilton (#145); Francis Scott Key Elementary/Middle School (#76); and Bluford Drew Jemison STEM Academy West (#364) when it was located in the Walbrook building. After high school, I stayed close to home and attended Goucher College in Towson, MD. I bring all of this up to say that I stick close to my roots, roots that run deeply throughout this city. As a product of Baltimore City Schools, like 7 of my 9 siblings, I feel confident in saying I obtained a well-rounded education in our city. That of course was due in part to the many teachers that put their hard work and faith in me.

This year I am beginning my journey as an educator in Baltimore City Public Schools. After spending the majority of my summer in an intensive course, Baltimore City Teaching Residency (BCTR), learning, and training to obtain my teacher's certification, I have found a home at Violetville Elementary/Middle School (#226). This is where you all come in.

Baltimore City Public Schools provides no budget to teachers to decorate and provide resources to their classrooms. Think about those conversations you've had or heard about in which teachers needed to buy all the materials for their classrooms. I am fortunate to have received help from my school in the form of some materials, but I still require assistance in providing resources and materials for my students to use within my classroom. This is why I am asking for your assistance. Below I have provided a list of materials that I would like to buy for my classroom. I understand that times are tough and every penny counts towards your own bills, but I am asking that you take the time and think about the future for a moment. Think about how your donation(s) benefit my students; your neighbors; future movers, shakers, and shapers of our city. Think of this as an investment in the future of our community. I'm not asking a single person to donate the sum of what I asking. What I will ask is that you donate $5 (USD) and that you share this with as many people as you can.

I appreciate you taking the time to read this and I appreciate you sharing if you choose to. I truly look forward to teaching and I'd love it if you could help me provide the best opportunity for me and most importantly my students.
