Shane served our country for 8 years as a U.S. Army Combat Medic, including deployments to Afghanistan. He was medically retired after sustaining a traumatic brain injury (TBI) and a severe knee injury from an IED blast in 2007.
I met Shane while on my lunch break. He was sitting on the curb with a sign that read, “Will work for food. Anything helps.” The Lord put it on my heart to stop and talk with him. As we sat together, Shane shared how in the past year he lost his job, his home, and his mother. He and his wife are currently staying in a shelter, trying to rebuild.
During our conversation, we talked about Jesus and the Gospel of Grace. Shane shared that he is a born again Christian. Before leaving, I was able to give him some money for a meal and promised I would try to do more to help.
