Help a Brave Mother of 9 Escape Abuse and Rebuild lives

My name is Kelvin Prickett, and I’m asking for your help on behalf of my sister Kala Morris and her nine children. After years of verbal and physical abuse from the Husband / father, they’ve finally escaped—but they’ve lost everything in the process.

My sister was with this man for over 10 years. At first, he seemed like a loving partner and father. But over time, the narcissistic behavior began to surface—followed by lies, yelling, and constant conflict. Eventually, the violence escalated, and the children began to suffer. When is enough truly enough? For my sister, the answer came when physical abuse crossed a line that should never be crossed. No child should ever live in fear of the person meant to protect them.

This man not only fathered children with my sister—he also legally adopted three of her children from a previous marriage. What should have been a gesture of love and protection became a source of deep trauma. His aggression and brutality affected every child in the home, but especially the oldest daughter. She tried to protect her siblings and advocate for their safety, but the emotional toll became overwhelming. She was arrested and admitted to a mental health facility, only to be released after professionals found no clinical diagnosis. Her behavior was a direct response to years of abuse, fear, and emotional neglect.

Today, my sister is still legally married to this man. The divorce process is ongoing, with lawyers involved and a custody battle underway. She is fighting not only for her freedom, but for full legal custody of her children—to protect them from further harm and give them a chance at a stable, loving future.

Her children range in age from just 5 years old to 17. These are formative years—years that should be filled with safety, learning, and love. Instead, they’ve been marked by trauma and instability.

With court dates now and in the future, my sister has been forced to miss multiple days of work. Even though her employer is aware of the legal situation, they’ve shown little compassion—warning her about excessive absences and putting her job at risk. She’s working two jobs to keep her family afloat, but the pay is modest and the pressure is relentless. She’s now actively seeking new employment that offers better flexibility and income—so she can meet her family’s basic needs without sacrificing their safety or her legal rights.

Meanwhile, her husband—now arrested and facing child abuse charges. lost his six-figure income and recently found new work in the transportation industry. While the legal system begins to hold him accountable, my sister is left to carry the emotional and financial weight of rebuilding a life for herself and her nine children.

In the midst of this, she’s taken proactive steps to educate her children—teaching them what abuse looks like, who to call, and how to protect themselves if danger ever returns. These conversations are painful but necessary. Her goal is not just survival, but empowerment. These children deserve to grow up informed, safe, and supported.

Having her own place to live would be more than just shelter—it would be a safe haven. A new beginning. A space where her children can heal, grow, and feel secure. These children did not ask to be born into violence, lies, or pain. They are innocent. Life is already hard enough—every child deserves love, safety, and the opportunity to thrive.

Why This Matters

This is more than a fundraiser—it’s a lifeline. My sister and her children are survivors. They’ve endured unimaginable pain, and now they’re ready to start fresh. But they can’t do it alone.

We’re calling on our community, and beyond, to come together in unity. Whether you’re a neighbor, a parent, a survivor, or simply someone who believes in protecting the vulnerable—your support matters. Every donation, every share, every prayer helps build a foundation of hope for this family.

Let’s show what compassion looks like in action. Let’s remind these children that the world hasn’t turned its back on them.

From the bottom of our hearts—thank you.
