Help a Brave Mom Protect Her Children from Abuse

An amazing mom and best friend of mine who lives out-of-state is going through this trying time and has already paid the fees for all the documents to be procured, but with that has come more bills and payments that are due.

After leaving the father of her two young children because of abuse towards both her and the children, she left everything behind to start over. Back on her feet, the abuse didn't stop. The continuous custody litigation has limited what this mom is able to provide for her children as the abuser is financially stable and using the court system to drain her of her financial ability to care for the kids. Still fighting to keep her children, legal fees are mounting.

Lakeshore Legal Aid and offices with sliding scales have declined to represent her due to the complex nature and history of this case. Pro bono hasn't been an option as she was told by several that there is too much work involved for this to be a pro bono case. An attorney has been secured to represent her, but the fees are astronomical for someone raising children alone and on low income. In addition, the abuser has forced her into missing work/losing income as he doesn't comply with the court orders. He spends days at a time harassing her and threatening police enforcement when she doesn't give in to his demands.

As a member of her community, she donates often. She involves herself in school with her kids, and she is their only place of stability. Please help to support this family to keep these children safe. This has been ongoing and at times dangerous, and we need to make sure she is represented. The kids need as much normalcy and as little disruption as possible while she navigates this stressful litigation. All funds will be used to pay legal fees to maintain representation.
