A Humble Request From the Heart
Dear friends, family, and kind supporters,
I come to you today with my hand on my heart, asking for your support during one of the most difficult times of my life. My name is Guadalupe, and I am a proud Dreamer. I have lived in the United States my entire life—this is the only home I have ever known. My mom brought me here as a baby, only a few months old, with nothing but hope for my future. All she ever wanted was to give me the chance at a better life.
Growing up here, I attended elementary school, middle school, high school, and now college. I have always worked hard to prove myself in school. Since I was young, I was an A and B Honor Roll student. In college, I was part of the Valley Scholars program, nominated for the Honor Society, and even received a letter from Harvard University recognizing my efforts. Today, I am proudly pursuing a degree in Psychology with a minor in Special Education.
One of the things I have always made clear in my journey is this: my blindness does not define me. I have never allowed it to limit what I can accomplish or the dreams I hold. Instead, it has motivated me to work harder, to believe in myself, and to inspire others to do the same.
I also have a beautiful family here—my little sister, my little brother, and my mother who has done nothing but fight for me every step of the way. She has been both a father and a mother to me, and she is one of the main reasons I have been able to go so far in life. To all the mothers out there, I ask you to please put yourselves in her shoes. Everything she has done has been out of love and sacrifice, so I could have a future.
Unfortunately, right now my dreams and my future are at risk. I am currently in the middle of a legal process to remain in the United States—the only home I know. On August 13th, I was detained, and it was one of the most painful, traumatic experiences of my life. I do not wish that on anyone. Being inside that center taught me many lessons, but above all, it showed me the value of freedom, of family, and of life itself.
Now, more than ever, I want to continue building the life I have been working so hard for. I recently got married, and my husband and I dream of starting a beautiful family here in the U.S.—a place that offers opportunities and accessibility for blind individuals like me. But to make this possible, I urgently need to cover my legal expenses, which amount to $4,000.
I know times are hard for many, and I do not ask this lightly. But if you can find it in your heart to contribute—no matter how big or small—it would mean the world to me. Every single donation brings me one step closer to securing my future, to remaining with my family, and to continuing my education and career path.
I believe with all my heart that God has a purpose for each of us. My faith reminds me that faith can move mountains, and I hold on to that hope daily. I also believe in humanity, and I know there are still kind and compassionate people out there who are willing to help.
From the very bottom of my heart, thank you for taking the time to read my story, for supporting me, and for standing by me in this fight for my future.
With gratitude and love,
Guadalupe Vargas
