The neighbors to my right are a racist white family who has threatened to kick my senior dog if they ever see me walking her in front of their home. The neighbors across the street are proud white supremacists who participated in the Capitol riot in January and fly a Gadsden flag, which has become an unofficial & crypto sign of white supremacy in my area and across the USA.

I used to have a rainbow flag in front of my house, but it was taken down on several occasions when I was at work and graffitied. My bike was stolen from my backyard last summer, the tires were purposefully popped, and it was placed in front of my home, literally as a reminder that whoever did it thought tormenting me was funny.
Two weeks ago, a retired cop moved into the neighboring house right next to mine. I have already experienced several racist encounters with him, and his children, despite my best efforts to be cordial and respectful. Worse, we share a dilapidated fence that falls down on windy days.
I would feel much safer and would worry less about my senior dog and my safety if we could replace the dilapidated fence with a sturdy privacy fence and a gate that locks. A fencing company agreed to do it for 10 grand which is unreal to me, but a family member can build it for 6k which is the cost of materials, hauling of the old fence, and a gate that locks.
I have 1k in savings, but unfortunately, because I am an impoverished teacher and have been laid off my original position due to a racist administration, I cannot afford the full fence myself. I'm afraid something bad will happen before I can save up the full amount.
Thank you for reading this and supporting me. I work extremely hard as a teacher, and I often have the students of these neighbors in my classes that I can model by my example that Black people, gay people, and Muslims are okay and in fact good to have as your neighbors.
I will keep doing my best to make the world a better and more inclusive place, and in the meantime, will take measures to keep myself safe and alive so I can do just that. Thank you!
