Help A Newark Black Filmmaker Make a Short film

As the writer and director of this upcoming film from Newark, NJ, I witnessed the resilience of Black people from different walks of life against the odds to achieve success in a big city. It is a predominantly Black city that has produced many creatives, artists, politicians, athletes and entrepreneurs—but doesn't get the recognition it deserves. This inspired me to tell a story that shows the determination of Newark natives and creatives learning how to thrive.
“The Theory Of Brick City Music” series unfolds around the lives of young creatives’ working to achieve their dreams while also navigating now-growingly gentrified Newark. We follow Josué Simon, as a stubborn saxophonist who suddenly has to balance music and the responsibility of caring for his sickly mother as well as his delinquent older brother after the death of his father. The series follows his ups and downs as he attempts to summon the courage to navigate the Newark arts’ scene in search of help to finish his first album inspired by his father’s musical past.
The Theory of Brick City Music Short Film will cost us $10,000. Our main costs will be paying our crew, cast and equipment ($2500) and
renting equipment ($1,700).

The community is what fueled the beginning stages of this project, allowing us to create The Theory Of Brick City Music pilot series on Youtube and Brick City Jam Festival and sessions events by and for the community. Now we need the community’s support to finish this film this year.
