Help a Black, Disabled Retired Teacher Gain Housing Security

Donation protected
Dear Friends, Family, and Kind-Hearted Strangers,

I am reaching out to you today to ask for your support in helping a remarkable woman, Ms. Angela Christmas (yes that is her real name!), who has dedicated her life to educating and nurturing young minds. Now retired and living with disabilities that are the direct consequence of extreme medical neglect and workplace harm, she faces the challenge of housing insecurity due to the incomplete disability-friendly remodeling of her home.

Ms. Christmas has spent over 25 years as a dedicated teacher, touching the lives of countless students with her wisdom, kindness, and unwavering commitment to children living in low-income communities. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, traumatic medical neglect, workplace harm, lack of workplace accountability and compensation, and consequently, her new physical disabilities, she has been unable to finish remodeling her home so that it can be a safe, livable space with the necessary accommodations that would allow her to live comfortably.

The remodeling construction of her home started with great hope and enthusiasm after having experienced these previous traumatic events, but the financial constraints due to her medical bills and health issues have brought the project to a standstill. Ms. Christmas is now faced with the injustice of being unable to live or sleep in her own home, and is struggling to cover the costs needed to complete this construction, including essential installations and accessibility modifications to accommodate her disabilities. This is putting her at risk of homelessness if she can’t pay for the remainder of the construction soon.

We are seeking to raise $80,000.00 to help Ms. Christmas finish her home and create a safe, comfortable living environment. Your generous donations will go towards:
• Installing needed fixtures and appliances that are currently absent
• Completing essential structural work
• Making accessibility modifications (ramps, handrails, etc.)
• Ensuring a safe and livable space

Every contribution, even if it's small, will make a significant difference. By coming together as a community, we can give back to someone who has given so so much to others. I know we can show Ms. Christmas that her years of dedication and hard work have not gone unnoticed and that she is not alone right now.

If you've read this far, thank you!! Your support and generosity would mean the world to her, even if it’s just $1. If you are someone sitting at the intersection of various privileges (race, financial, etc.) we kindly encourage you to donate more. And lastly, if you are unable to contribute financially, please consider sharing this GoFundMe with your network! Together we can practice caring for our community and help Ms. Christmas move back into her forever home + give her the comfort and security she deserves.

With love <3
