Hello everyone, firstly if you are taking the time to read this, thank you. My name is Malachi, I am 25, and unfortunately, I was involved in a motorcycle accident not long after leaving my apartment to meet a friend for lunch. A van blew past a yield sign onto the same road I had just made a protected left turn. He then proceeded to cross the entire road directly toward me. Due to the angle of his traversal, I not only was unable to switch into the center lane, but when I went more left, he sandwiched me between his vehicle and a metal road sign. The accident caused a compound break in my left tibia, requiring a metal rod to be inserted into my leg. I also dislocated my left elbow, and unfortunately, when the medical team reset it, they noticed it did not want to stay, requiring its own surgery to place a plastic joint stabilizer to be surgically removed at a later date. I also broke a small piece of my left thumb and fractured my wrist. Of course, with such a traumatic event came the psychological damages, and it's left me scarred both physically and mentally. The accident has left me unable to work, and my specific field of work provides no benefits to help me through this time of need. My mother and stepfather are doing everything they possibly can to help me pay my bills on top of the medical bills and their own house bills. I only got into riding a very short time ago, but it has been the most fun I've ever had on a vehicle. I may be young, and as terrifying and traumatic as this was, I count myself extremely lucky it wasn't worse and has only hardened my resolve to ride again, even more defensively than before. All donations will be put toward medical bills and bills such as rent and utilities just to keep me afloat while I recover.
