Mi nombre es María Deaquis y soy la Directora del Centro de Enriquecimiento Familiar C.R.E.C.E., un espacio diseñado por y para la comunidad, donde las familias pueden encontrar recursos, crear conexiones, apoyarse mutuamente y construir estrategias que les permitan prosperar. Hoy les escribo no solo como directora, sino también como vecina, amiga y testigo de una gran injusticia.

El 17 de julio de 2025, acompañé a un miembro muy respetado de nuestra comunidad (para proteger su identidad no mencionaré nombres) a 26 Federal Plaza, para lo que debía ser una cita rutinaria de control migratorio. Como lo ha hecho durante años, cumplió con todas las instrucciones que se le dieron. Pero en lugar de salir libre ese día, fue detenido ilegalmente por ICE, sin orden judicial, sin nuevos cargos, y sin ninguna justificación. Fue un acto arbitrario que ignoró por completo el debido proceso.

Actualmente, se encuentra recluido en uno de los mismos centros de detención de ICE que fueron expuestos por el New York Times en un artículo publicado el 22 de julio, donde se documentan condiciones de hacinamiento, suciedad e inhumanidad dentro de estas instalaciones. El reportaje incluye videos que muestran a los detenidos hacinados, durmiendo en el suelo y sin acceso adecuado a comida, duchas ni atención médica. Eso es lo que él está enfrentando.

Es esposo y padre de dos hijos—un niño pequeño y un adolescente—y el único sostén económico de su hogar. Su ausencia ha devastado a su esposa y a sus hijos. El más pequeño llora todos los días por su papá, sin entender por qué ya no está. El mayor intenta ser fuerte, pero la carga emocional y económica es inmensa.

Conocí a esta familia a través de su trabajo voluntario en múltiples eventos comunitarios organizados a lo largo de los años. Siempre han sido de esas personas que ofrecen una cama, un plato de comida o una mano amiga, sin pedir nada a cambio. Su generosidad y espíritu de servicio son bien conocidos en nuestra comunidad.

Ahora ellos nos necesitan a nosotros.

Estamos trabajando de cerca con su abogado de inmigración, quien está haciendo todo lo posible para lograr su liberación. Además, funcionarios públicos del distrito donde vive la familia están al tanto del caso y se encuentran activamente involucrados.

Esta campaña de GoFundMe busca apoyar a la familia cubriendo dos meses de renta, servicios públicos, alimentos, útiles escolares y necesidades básicas, así como ayudar a que el padre detenido tenga acceso a comida, medicamentos y llamadas telefónicas mientras se encuentra bajo custodia de ICE.

Nuestra meta es recaudar entre $7,000 y $10,000 dólares para ayudar a esta familia a mantenerse a flote durante esta pesadilla.

[ENGLISH] Help a Beloved Community Father Detained Without Cause

My name is Maria Deaquis, and I am the Director of the C.R.E.C.E. Family Enrichment Center a community designed space where locals can find resources, foster connections, support one another, and build strategies that help families thrive. Today, I come to you not only as a director but as a neighbor, a friend, and a witness to injustice.

On July 17th, 2025, I accompanied a deeply respected community member (to safe guard his identity I will not be using names) to 26 Federal Plaza for what should have been a routine immigration check-in. He followed every instruction he was given, as he has for years. Instead of walking out that day, he was illegally detained by ICE; with no judicial warrant, no new charges, and no justification. It was an arbitrary act that disregards due process.

He is currently being held in one of the very same ICE holding centers that the New York Times exposed in a July 22nd article documenting overcrowded, filthy, and inhumane conditions inside immigration facilities. The report includes video footage showing detainees crammed together, sleeping on floors, and denied adequate access to food, showers, and medical care. This is what he has had to endure.

He is a husband and father of two, a toddler and a teenager, and the sole provider for his household. His absence has devastated his wife and children. Their youngest cries daily for his father, unable to understand why he’s gone. Their older child is trying to stay strong, but the emotional and financial strain is enormous.

I met this family through their volunteer work at the various community events that are hosted throughout the years. Over the years, they’ve been the kind of people who offer others a bed, a warm meal, a helping hand, always without asking for anything in return. Their generosity and spirit of service are well-known throughout our community.

Now they need us.

We are working closely with his immigration lawyer, who is doing everything possible to advocate for his release. Local public officials from the district where the family lives are also actively involved and aware of the injustice he is facing.

This GoFundMe will support the family with two months of rent, utilities, groceries, school supplies, and basic survival needs, as well as help the detained father have access to food, medicine, and communication while in ICE custody.

Our goal is to raise between $5,000 and $10,000 to help this family stay afloat during this nightmare.
