If you’ve ever met my sister Claire, you know she is the most gentle, positive, and caring person.
She is selfless. She is kind. She is an incredible sister, daughter, partner, and friend- always looking out for others before herself.
She’s also a personal support worker — which means she spends her days caring for others, listening to their stories, their worries… and, most importantly, their absolutely unhinged and hilarious shenanigans.
Unfortunately, at just 25 years old, Claire is experiencing significant hearing loss. After waiting 2 years for a hearing specialist appointment (got to love Ontario healthcare) they confirmed she has significant hearing loss and requires hearing aids.
The hearing aids she needs cost between $7,000–$8,000 — which are not covered by medical insurance.
Why this matters
Hearing is connection.
Hearing is independence.
Hearing is being able to laugh at the exact moment someone delivers the punchline.
Claire also learned from the doctor that untreated hearing loss is also linked to increased risk of cognitive decline and conditions like dementia later in life — which makes early support and intervention incredibly important.
But beyond the science, this is about quality of life.
This is about making sure someone who gives so much of herself to others can fully participate in the noisy, chaotic, beautiful world she loves.
✨Your support will help Claire:
• Hear her residents’ wild stories and one-liners
• Continue doing the job she truly cares about
• Stay socially connected and confident
• Protect her long-term brain health
• Embrace change with pride instead of fear
And honestly… help her stop aggressively nodding and pretending she heard what you said.
✨ A little reminder for everyone reading this
If you’ve been saying “What?” more than usual…
If subtitles have become your best friend…
If group dinners feel exhausting…
This might be your sign to get your hearing checked.
Being true to yourself also means taking care of your health — even when you’re young.
✨Every bit helps
If you can donate, share, or simply send good vibes — we are so grateful.
Let’s help this incredible human keep hearing the laughter, the love, and yes… the absolute nonsense life throws her way.
Because the world is such a better place with Claire in it, and Claire would love the world so much more when she can hear it.
