For those of you who don’t know Josh Maness, it doesn’t take a long conversation for you to realize what an authentic, sincere person he is. Josh graduated Union Pines High School this past summer with the class of 2018. Josh and his dad were aspiring to open up a fast food joint in Carthage, JnJ Burger and BBQ Spot, where they planned to serve mouth-watering burgers and chilling mugs of root beer floats, but this is no longer a possibility with external circumstances. In 2012, Josh’s dad started having recurrent strokes (over 50 mini strokes and 8 major strokes), and is not physically able to open up their family restaurant. In fact, he is unable to work at all and needs a cane to keep his balance. Josh’s mom is also physically unwell as she has fibromyalgia and arachnoiditis. This causes the nerves in her lower back to become twisted and clumped together. Her debilitating condition restricts her mobility and has the potential to paralyze her.
Josh used to work at FirstHealth as a patient transporter, but after a change in policy, he lost his job as his Asperger’s Syndrome made his IQ too low to maintain his employment status. After scurrying to find a new job, Josh began to work night shifts at the McDonald’s in Aberdeen from 9 PM to 5 AM. Josh is the only one working in his household, and he needs support to keep his family afloat. As Christmas is approaching, it is important to help those who are struggling to make it. This becomes particularly critical when they are doing everything in their power to help themselves. If you graduated with Josh, don’t be afraid to help him out. Don’t be afraid to share this with more 2018 graduates; Josh and his family would immensely appreciate it.
***As of the making of this page, Josh does not know about it. We plan to surprise him and his family Christmas morning with funding raised from all of you.***
