My name is Amber, & this is my emotional and psychological support pet, Sadie. Sunday, Sadie was playing in the yard and suddenly began screaming and writhing in pain. We went to the emergency vet, & they needed $1,300 to do 6-view X-rays, bloodwork, and provide pain meds. I only had $600, so we got the meds and a smaller group of X-rays. The vet wanted to rule out a slipped disc and was able to with the X-rays. Now she thinks Sadie has FCE, Fibrocartilaginous Embolus. In layman’s terms, it means she threw a blood clot in her spine and is now facing acute death of a part of her spine. Spinal stroke.
After the initial pain, Sadie did lose use of her rear right leg and is having difficulty with her rear left and front right legs. She can’t stand or walk at all. The next step is an MRI to confirm a clot, but that costs at least $2,000. There is no specific treatment for FCE, so they usually give steroids and rest and HOPE it corrects over time with physical therapy. If this is an accurate diagnosis, we’re looking at meds, PT, possibly some assistive care devices, a need for supportive care to help her move around and prevent sores, and a lot of prayers for a miracle.
Sadie and I live in a fifth wheel, & I have fibromyalgia and some other health/mental health issues. I was barely able to carry her inside and basically had to slide her in the door and then climb in myself. To carry her out, I had to take the first step and then sit and scoot us down. I’ve been trying to find the means to build a small deck with some less steep steps because I’m concerned about falling, but now we absolutely need it more than ever! That’s why I’m asking for this amount. It may also change after the vet gives us a prognosis.
Sadie saved my life when I got her 6 years ago, & now I want to help her live a happy and comfortable one. Any help we receive will be used for her medical needs and to build a deck to keep us both safer.
