Help Rebecca Get Well

In 2015 my lovely wife Rebecca started mysteriously collapsing and over the remainder of that year degenerated to the point of being virtually wheelchair and bed bound. She was subsequently diagnosed with a condition called Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). 

Over the ensuing 7 years, she has tried to rebuild her life at home and working as a professional singer but regrettably the enjoyment of life has gone as a result of the constant battle with breathlessness, tachycardia, heart arythmias, auto-immune issues/allergic reactions (amongst other symptoms).

Whilst consultations she has had to date has helped to manage some of the symptoms (of which the list is virtually endless), it is only treating her condition on the ‘surface’ and there are still so many unanswered questions. 

With POTS, there is frequently an underlying condition that causes and/or drives the disorder. In my wife’s case it is suspected Lyme disease but as anyone who has ever dealt with Lyme knows, it is a very slippery fish to handle, detect and treat. This being the case, Rebecca will need to see various specialists and the Lyme side of the equation is inordinately expensive.

I am therefore (body willing) endeavouring to run a marathon roughly every quarter over the next calendar year in the hope that we can raise sufficient funds for her to receive the appropriate treatment.

It’s a really terrifying thing when the rug is pulled beneath you and all your independence is taken, having to be reliant on so many people daily. Every day is not the same and I never know what will happen from moment to moment, which causes almost a permanent state of anxiety. Trying to hide so many of the symptoms as I seek to get on with daily life is completely exhausting and daunting.
