Living in our car for the past six months has been a heartbreaking reality for my family, but one that has been thrust on us by fear for our future in the current situation.
My husband Jose and I gave up our apartment and have been too scared to return to our jobs. Living this way has brought unimaginable challenges, and has been particularly hard on our children, especially our 13-year old son who has cerebral palsy and asthma and now has no place to play or relax after school.
We had to bring our 2-year old son to the emergency room with a skin infection since it is nearly impossible to maintain proper hygiene. The constant stress has taken a toll on my health, making it difficult to manage my blood pressure and diabetes. As winter approaches, the situation becomes even more dire.
We have exhausted our savings living without income, and in payments to lawyers in an unsuccessful effort to regularize our situation.
Our hope is to raise enough money to quietly rent a room or small apartment where we can live in relative safety during the winter while considering our future options. Your support would mean the world to us in this difficult time.
