Help Madeline get to Oviedo, Spain!

Hi!

You may have heard, but this summer I will be participating in the IU Honors Program for Foreign Languages (IUHPFL) study abroad program in Oviedo, Spain. The selection process for the program was quite involved and was based on strong overall academic standing and high performance in Spanish. I’m very proud that the IUHPFL Selection Committee chose me as one of the less than 300 Indiana high school students to participate this summer!

This will be my first time traveling to Europe, and I’m so excited for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I will be fully immersed and with a host family for 6 weeks – that means ZERO English! I am especially excited about this aspect of the program, as I hope to attain practical fluency in Spanish by the time I return home. While in Oviedo, I will attend daily classes in Spanish grammar, culture, phonetics, and conversation. In addition, I will get the opportunity to travel and explore Spain with both the IU Honors Program and my host family. (I also hope to get to play in some fun pick-up soccer games!) I am super excited to make lifelong relationships with my host family, other students in the program, and anyone else I meet — when I have talked to others that have done the program, this seems to be a common occurrence. When my mom was in high school, she participated in the same program (but in France) and it was a life-changing experience. That also shows that this program is well established (they know what they’re doing).

My family and I are working hard at making this trip possible for me, but we are seeking sponsorships to help offset the expenses. The tuition plus airfare is approximately $7800.
