This is Althea writing on behalf of Kamiel. I am a single mother doing the very best to raise my children with love, faith, and strong values. Our lives changed forever when we unexpectedly lost my oldest and only son, Xander, just after he graduated from high school and as he was preparing to begin college to pursue his dream of becoming an electrical engineer. Xander passed away suddenly in his sleep, and the shock of his loss is something no mother can ever prepare for. After his passing, we learned that he had Brugada Syndrome, a rare inherited heart rhythm disorder that can cause sudden cardiac arrest. This condition is not commonly known to affect African American men; it is more often associated with Asian males over 40. The doctors believe a minor car accident the night before may have triggered changes that overstimulated his heart, leading to his tragic and unexpected passing.

As I grieve this unimaginable loss, I am also facing the overwhelming financial burden of funeral and burial expenses, while fighting to keep our home from foreclosure after exhausting my savings to provide for my family. The suddenness of Xander's passing has left us not only heartbroken but also struggling to manage these urgent costs. Any donation, prayer, or share of this campaign will help ease the financial burden and give us the opportunity to mourn without the added weight of overwhelming expenses. Most importantly, I hope Xander's story raises awareness about Brugada Syndrome, especially in communities where it is not commonly recognized, so that other families may recognize the condition before tragedy strikes. If his story helps save even one life, then his legacy will continue to make a difference.
