Jeremy McClung's Medical Emergency

It was Spring Break for 41 year old elementary school teacher, Jeremy McClung; so he and his wife Dana and their 7 and one 1 year old daughters headed to a local water park for a family getaway.  At the water park he obtained a small scrape on the elbow of his right arm.  The next day, he noticed his arm appeared to be getting infected, inflamed, and he was experiencing pain down to his fingers.  He drove himself to the ER where he was given an antibiotic and a pain pill and sent home.  As the next day wore on he was vomiting and experiencing breathing difficulties.  Dana loaded him and the two sleeping girls into the car and headed to the ER.  Upon arrival, Jeremy was near death and had no kidney function.  There was no ICU bed available, so he was immediately transported by ambulance to another hospital, put on a ventilator and sedated. Twenty-four hour per day dialysis followed over the next week. He also experienced an episode of heart failure, a blood clot in his lung, and the infection creeping up his arm. Jeremy was fighting for his life. After spending over a week in ICU, Jeremy was moved to a regular medical floor.  To date, the doctors still have not been able to isolate the bacteria that entered Jeremy's bloodstream through his elbow.  Loved ones were informed that he had suffered severe septic shock which will require a long recovery period.  Jeremy is still extremely weakened and is awaiting  transfer to a transitional care unit for rehabilitation and healing.


Dana and Jeremy are both on leave from their jobs. With no salaries at present--their health insurance premiums have to be paid out of pocket and Jeremy has no short term disability coverage. Ninety days must pass before Jeremy's long term disability kicks in.  This event has been emotionally and financially catastrophic for this young family.  Please consider donating what you can to help them through this frightening medical crisis.
