Hello. I am raising money for my daughter Harley. Harley just recently turned 17 and has many complex health conditions including spina bifida, hydrocephalus, seizure disorder, cerebral palsy, hypothyroidism, Chiari type 2, and SIADH just to name a few. Harley has spent most of her life in and out of hospitals. She has never been able to attend school in person so her teacher has always came to our house. She is also paraplegic and confined to a wheelchair. However the last 2 years for Harley have been the most stable for her ever. She has been able to do many things she has never done before like spend this last season with the Butler Women's Basketball Team and find out what it is like to be part of a team. She has continued to be stable enough that we could finally start the process of braces for her mouth with a big jaw surgery to go with it about 1 1/2-2 years in. We never thought Harley would be able to do this so we are very happy she can now do this. Harley can not close her mouth all of the way or eat anything other than softer foods. She has such a large over bite and her teeth do not line up at all causing this. She has had a g tube since she was very little for this reason too. She also has a severe obstructive sleep apnea and uses a CPAP machine at night. The braces and jaw surgery are needed to correct all of this with the goals of finally being able to close her mouth, not needing a g tube anymore and getting rid of the CPAP machine. Yes the braces and jaw surgery really should fix most of this and make Harley very happy. Harleys pulmonologist has said this will absolutely fix her problem with the severe obstructive apnea and if it doesn’t happen then it will continue to get worse and may require oxygen at some point so that is the biggest reason to do the braces then jaw surgery. Anything else it helps would be a bonus. This would allow her to be more social in respect to dining out with friends. It would mean not having to take a CPAP machine with her everywhere she goes that includes an overnight stay. Most importantly it will be the biggest confidence booster for her being able to close her mouth all of the way and give the most beautiful smile. Unfortunately all of the orthodontic work and extra teeth removal besides the wisdom teeth are not covered by insurance. They consider it like a cosmetic surgery, as in not medically necessary despite how much it would help her over all health. All of the teeth removal will need to be done in the OR at local children’s hospital too because of all her serious health conditions. The surgery needing to be done in the OR just makes it even more expensive. Thankfully the jaw surgery will mostly be covered by insurance but that also does not cover our out of pocket expenses for that in means of traveling out of state. Harley did have a grant for some of the orthodontic work but we were unable to find an orthodontist that would accept the terms with it. She is going to the dental school for the orthodontic work so that helps lower the cost on that a little bit. Harley did just start this process 3 weeks ago and currently has braces so far on her top row of teeth. She is supposed to get an expander put in roof of her mouth in two weeks and then there are more teeth to be removed on the bottom before they can start there. I myself will struggle to keep up with the payments because I just don't have it on top of all of Harley's other increasing bills and she is also not my only child in need. I did just recently go through a bankruptcy again due to struggling with paying for Harleys medical needs. With that I will not get approved for a loan. I did not want to wait any longer to start this for her. She can only do this if she is stable and in one month it will be 2 years since her 50th brain surgery. Also she will age out at 21 where insurance will pay for the jaw surgery. I'm also afraid of waiting too long and her health take a turn in the opposite direction again. On top of these funds needed for her orthodontic care she is also needing parts for her wheelchair. Her chair is fairly new but the seat and back will not work for her. She also needs different wheels and a new dial or button/switches that are not covered by insurance. She is in need of a new lift for home and new wheelchair ramp outside as the other one is 15 years old and falling apart and other various items. I did try multiple times appealing all of this with insurance and they just keep denying it. So the funds raised will go to everything listed and other general needs for Harley not listed as there are many. It will also go towards any other needs for Harley that may arise throughout this process. I also believe in miracles and praying it all works out. So this is why I am starting this go fund me.
