Help Camille reach the Olympic Games

Hello friends, my name is Camille Maldonado. I am 18 years old and a member of the Puerto Rico National Rhythmic Gymnastics team.

My athletic journey is filled with many triumphs, tragedy and old-fashioned hard work towards the goal of my life - to participate in Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

After 11 years in this graceful sport and being considered an exceptional gymnast with incredible achievements, I’m currently one step away from competing in the Olympics. But besides all my health, time, and effort, it turned out that this ambition costs a lot of money too. Even though I’m still young, I was forced to understand from an early age that the financial barriers pose the main challenge for teenage athletes like myself.

At the moment, I’m undertaking high-intensity trainings and preparing for the upcoming Olympic Qualifying competitions this summer of 2023 and 2024 such as: the Pan-American Championships, Central American Games, and International Tournaments. Entry fees for these tournaments come up to significant amounts and are accompanied by the inevitable costs such as accommodations, air tickets, food, training camps, sport-specific equipment, doctor visits, membership fees, etc., which can hardly be financed by an athlete without external support.

Unfortunately, our sport is expensive and the federation doesn’t have sufficient funds for athletes. Until now I relied heavily on my family, but they have been hit hard by the Covid pandemic and Hurricane Maria and can no longer cover all of my expenses. Every week there is a pressure on my parents thinking ‘do we pay this bill or do we go to that competition?’.
