About Me
I’m grateful to be the first woman in my family to study abroad. This opportunity is one that my mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother didn’t have.
My dream is to become a global-minded Psychologist and advocate for youth, especially other Black girls who don’t always get the care, visibility, or voice they deserve.
For the last several months, I’ve been working while in school. I managed to save $2000 for my plane ticket and visa fees. I am also applying for scholarships, but I need your support!
I’m dedicated to becoming a Psychologist who builds bridges so that every community feels seen, supported, and empowered.
When I was 12, my little brother was diagnosed with cancer. The emotional toll my brother, myself, and my mom had to endure through his 3-year battle changed our hearts, minds, and bodies forever. Although there were some resources available, I noticed that a nuanced type of care was needed to match each person in my family’s needs.
Since then, I’ve been learning how to show up for myself and others with empathy, consistency, and care. I want to help build a world where girls like me feel seen, supported, and understood, especially in communities where mental health is still hard to talk about.
This trip means more to me than academics; it’s a part of my foundation in psychology and will help shape the kind of provider I want to become as technology, society, and human responses are quickly changing.
What I’m Excited to Learn
- How the struggles in mental healthcare are the same/different across cultures and geographic locations
- How different cultures approach mental health care and stigma
- How solutions are being innovatively developed and implemented in schools and clinics
- Strategies for empowering underserved people through culturally aware mental health support
Financial and Social Responsibility
- I’ve saved $2,000 to cover my plane ticket. I need your help to cover the remaining expenses: tuition, housing, transportation, health insurance, meals, and school supplies.
- I’m also applying for university grants to help offset costs, but every donation here makes a direct impact.
- I’ve taken Korean language courses for the past 2 years so I can try to respectfully engage in Korean culture and dialogue.
