Help Brody Weinert Save His Leg and Fight Cancer
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Sharon Rodgers, and I’m a close friend of the Weinert family from Coromandel Valley, SA.
Last week, their beautiful 9-year-old son Brody Weinert was diagnosed with osteosarcoma — an aggressive form of bone cancer in his thigh.
It all began with a simple knock to the leg on the sports field. Scans revealed the devastating truth: Brody has cancer.
About Brody
Brody is an energetic, adventurous, and curious boy who lives with his Mum Karina, Dad Adrian, big sister Lola, and his best mate, Luna the family dog. He loves exploring the bush, fishing, swimming, learning about animals, and playing baseball and softball.
He should be out enjoying life — not fighting for it.
The Urgent Situation
Brody starts chemotherapy this Wednesday at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, with six rounds planned over the next 10 weeks.
But there’s more: Brody urgently needs surgery to remove and replace his cancerous thigh bone. Sadly, due to a shortage of specialist plastic surgeons in the SA public health system, the only option available locally would be to amputate his leg — a crushing prospect for an active young boy.
The family refused to give up hope.
They found a world-class specialist, Professor Peter Choong in Melbourne, who believes Brody’s leg can be saved. But this surgery must be done privately and is not covered by Medicare.
The Financial Challenge
The surgery and associated costs are enormous, and must be paid within 3 weeks. Here’s what the family is facing:
$50,000–$80,000 for surgery (including plastic and orthopaedic surgeons, anaesthesia, theatre fees, etc.)
$1,500/day for post-operative care
$10,000 for orthopaedic surgeon fees
Additional costs for travel, accommodation, follow-up care, and further surgeries
Adrian and Karina are doing everything they can — even looking at refinancing their mortgage. Adrian expects to take 2 years off work to care for Brody through multiple surgeries, chemo and recovery, while Karina will return to work full-time.
How You Can Help
We’re raising funds to give Brody the chance to keep his leg and get back to the life he loves. Every single donation, no matter how small, helps ease the burden and gives this family hope.
If you can help financially, or by sharing this fundraiser far and wide, please do. Your kindness will directly help this brave little boy and his loving family focus on what matters most — healing and hope.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
With gratitude,
Sharon Rodgers & Brody’s friends and family
