Help 95-Year-Old Artist Stay in Assisted Living

Donation protected
My name is Pat Barnett. I am 95 years old. After a lifetime of self-sufficiency, I am asking for your help to stay in assisted living. The economic crash in 2008 wiped out half of my lifetime savings and forced me to sell my home. Now, the remainder of my savings and long-term care insurance policy has run out.  Over the last 18 years, multiple strokes, falls and fractures have left me needing 24-hour care. I spent my life being careful with my money, running a small graphic design business, saving for retirement, doing volunteer work and having the right insurance.
I would greatly appreciate your help. With Gratitude -- Pat Barnett
P.S. UnionTribune Columnist Diane Bell did this nice column which was re-printed in the Del Mar Times. If you like, take a look. ❤️

"Grandma Pat's" story as told by her children:

Our Mom didn’t want us to add this. She felt it was “bragging.” Mom has never asked anything, and has never had a bad thing to say about anybody. We feel other people should see the details of her lifetime of giving back to her
community.

After years of fighting for fair and affordable housing, as president of her local League of Women Voters, our mom will soon lose her own assisted living residence.

Pat Barnett, our inspirational and talented 95-year-old mother, needs your help to stay in assisted living and keep
on painting.

Persevered Through Strokes, Failing Eyesight and Falls

Strokes, falls, and failing eyesight have broken her bones and left her severely handicapped and requiring 24-hour care. But Pat’s spirit has never faltered, and she continues creating extraordinary art.

2008 Recession: Lost Her Home & Retirement Savings

Our extraordinary mother spent her life doing the "right thing,” being frugal, saving for retirement, putting the
right insurance in place and always paying her way. The economic crash of 2008 wiped out most of her lifetime savings and forced her to sell her home. Now, the remainder of her savings and the funds from the long-term care
insurance policy she wisely set up many years ago have run out. Through no fault of her own, Pat Barnett paid a
huge price for the 2008 financial crash.

A Lifetime of Painting and Community Service

Soon after the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, at age 15, Pat started two activities that would define her life. She started painting and started serving her community. As a high school student, Patricia started
attending the Toledo Art Institute and became a Cadet in the Civil Air Patrol. In 2004, Pat’s first stroke ended 60
years of community service and forced her to close her graphics design business and give up painting. She started
painting again at age 92.

Her 60 Years Of Service Included:

-Delivering Meals on Wheels to Seniors.
-Supporting a Home for Battered Women.
-Engaging in civic issues including civil rights, voting rights, environmental protection and clean drinking water
availability.
-Chairing or was active in numerous organizations including Soroptimist International, Artist Equity Association
and many other service and civic groups.
-Volunteering her graphic arts skills to community causes and non-profit organizations.
-Fighting for fair and affordable housing, as president of her local League of Women Voters.

Grandma Pat misses the participation in her many volunteer organizations.

After a lifetime of self-sufficiency, artistry and giving, Grandma Pat needs your help.
Thank you.
