Today I met a 90-year-old woman named Rosalie and her son at Walmart.

I asked Rosalie if she had dropped a diamond earring. Even though she could have easily said yes and kept it, she immediately told me the truth and said it wasn’t hers.

To reward her honesty, I gave her $1,000.

Rosalie was shocked and shared her story with me.

At 90 years old, Rosalie is still caring for her adult son, who was hit by a train and left permanently disabled with traumatic brain injury. He requires her care and support, and she’s doing everything she can to be there for him.

But Rosalie is fighting a battle of her own. She has cancer and can’t afford the treatment she needs. Their car is broken down, bills continue to pile up, and she’s struggling just to keep them afloat.

Her son has also had an incredibly difficult road. Because of his disability, he’s struggled to make friends and has been bullied, mistreated, and even spat on.

Through everything they’ve endured, Rosalie still chose honesty when no one was watching.

At 90 years old, she shouldn’t have to choose between paying the bills, caring for her son, and getting the cancer treatment she needs.

Let’s rally around Rosalie and her son and give them some peace, security, and hope in this season of their lives.
