Friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers,
I want to share the story of a man who has spent his entire life serving others with humility, faith, and love—my dear friend Charles Deal.
Charles grew up in Waxahachie, Texas, where his determination earned him athletic scholarships and the respect of his community. After college, he answered the call of duty, serving in the National Guard during the Berlin Crisis of 1960. His life has been defined by service—whether to his country, his coworkers, or his neighbors.
For decades, Charles worked tirelessly. From Greyhound Bus Lines to Clinical Pathology Laboratories in Denton, Texas, he carried out every job with pride. I met Charles while working as an operations manager at CPL, and I quickly realized he was the heartbeat of our courier team. Rain or shine, holiday or weekend, Charles never missed a beat. He understood that every patient sample he carried represented someone’s life, someone’s hope. His dedication was unmatched, and his kindness unforgettable. Patients and staff adored him.
Outside of work, Charles found joy in Friday night football at Denton Ryan High School. To him, every game was a championship, every player a future star. His love for the sport was infectious, and his predictions were often right.
But above all, Charles is a man of deep faith. He attends Pathway Baptist Church in Waxahachie and lives by the principle of serving others before himself. He never asks for help—but he’s always the first to offer it.
In 2022, Charles retired to care for his younger brother, who was battling cancer. His brother promised him he could live in his home for the rest of his life. Tragically, just one month after Charles moved in, his brother passed away. The promise was never put in writing, and now Charles is struggling to keep the home that was meant to be his sanctuary.
At 90 years old, Charles has exhausted his savings, withdrawn from his IRA (facing penalties), and poured everything he has into covering property taxes, insurance, and repairs. His knees and mobility make working nearly impossible, yet he still considers it because he refuses to give up.
Charles has no immediate family to lean on. He is alone—but he is not without us.
This is the first fundraiser I have ever organized, and I do it with conviction and love. Charles deserves peace, dignity, and stability in the home his brother wanted him to have. He should not have to spend his final years worrying about losing the roof over his head.
Your donation will help cover essential expenses—property taxes, insurance, utilities, and repairs—so Charles can live out his remaining years without fear or financial strain. Every dollar makes a difference. Every act of kindness helps preserve the legacy of a man who has given so much to others.
Please help us honor Charles’ life of service, faith, and love. Together, we can give him the gift of security and peace in the home that holds his brother’s memory.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Peter Charoonbara
