Help 828 Become Lake Lure’s Community Hub

Chris and Kami Trusz along with business partners Erick Airhart and Martie Irby have always put their community first. After Hurricane Helene, they spent countless hours helping neighbors and friends recover, showing a level of dedication that inspired everyone around them. Now they’re channeling that same energy and love into opening The 828, a new sports bar and meeting place in Lake Lure. Their vision is to create a welcoming spot for locals and visitors alike, where everyone, including four-legged friends, can enjoy Chris’ world-famous wings, sports, and good conversation.

Opening The 828 hasn’t been easy. They have faced the challenges of rebuilding from the ground up after the hurricane, handling most of the construction themselves. They’re still waiting for water and sewer to be restored, but the floors, walls, and fixtures are ready. Their goal is to open in August 2025, and having a pool table in place for the grand opening would mean a lot to them and the community. The final touch to bring their dream to life is adding games and entertainment—pool tables, dart boards, corn hole, and more—to make 828 a true community hub.
