My name is Leon Bedward, and I was born in the beautiful community of Lluidas Vale, St. Catherine, Jamaica, though I now live in the UK. Today, I’m reaching out on behalf of Jerwayne Myrie, a brave 7-year-old boy from my hometown who is fighting for his life.

In August 2025, Jerwayne was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma (embryonal type)—a rare and aggressive form of cancer that develops in soft tissue, often in children. Since then, his journey has been unimaginably tough. Despite the pain, Jerwayne has faced every day with extraordinary courage and a smile that lights up the room.

His best hope for survival now lies overseas. We are working tirelessly to get Jerwayne accepted for treatment at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Tennessee, USA, a world-renowned centre for paediatric oncology. This hospital offers specialised care that could give Jerwayne the fighting chance he deserves.

The local community in St. Catherine has already rallied together, hosting fundraisers to support his ongoing medical expenses. But to make this next critical step possible, we need the support of the wider community—people like you.

Our immediate goal is to raise £8,000 to cover:

Flights for Jerwayne and his mother to travel to the United States

Accommodation during their time abroad

Essential living expenses so his mother can stay by his side throughout his treatment

Being far from home while facing such a serious illness is frightening for any child. Having his mother with him will provide the emotional security and comfort he desperately needs during this traumatic time.

To put things into perspective, each bottle of chemotherapy currently costs 18,000 Jamaican dollars, which is more than three-quarters of his parents’ weekly income. Despite the financial hardship, Jerwayne’s treatment remains their top priority.
