Hello! We are the Fairfield PTAC all girls 7th grade team. We affectionately refer to ourselves as the 'Pizza Girls'. Our team is made up of girls from all three middle schools in the Fairfield district. This is our second year participating in the Odyssey of the Mind program and we are so grateful for the opportunity to compete in the worldwide competition once again. Odyssey of the Mind is an open-ended challenge solving program that cultivates creative thinking, teamwork, and perseverance. The problem we chose focuses on engineering, acting, and art. For the past few months, our team has been busy crafting a skit, building sets and props, and engineering a structure limited to very tight criteria. Each Odyssey team is entirely student led. The competition features teams from grades K through 12 from around the world. You can learn more here .
Our all-girl team believes in empowering more girls in STEAM fields and encouraging them to think outside of the box. Odyssey of the Mind is a great opportunity to show this to all the girls out there.
At the State Competition in March, we earned first place as well as received the Jill Riggles Award for the highest score in the spontaneous problem solving section for our division. We were overjoyed and so grateful. Once again, we have had the privilege to be invited to attend the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals competition at Michigan State University in May. This opportunity would enable us to meet other students interested in STEAM from all around the world. After attending the competition last year, we came home with many new ideas and experiences. We are so thrilled to be able to take part in the competition again. This trip will include many expenses though, including:
- Competition fees
- Rooming and meals
- Transportation for the team and our props
Your donation, even a small one, would be greatly appreciated. Every bit helps! Going to the World level is a huge accomplishment and we are so excited to be a part of it. This competition program means so much to our team because it allows us to further bond with each other and make connections with other kids our age. Our team is interested in pursuing careers in STEAM fields and this competition is an amazing opportunity for us to learn and grow.
Thank you in advance for your support!
Love from: Talia, Shadyn, Claire, Julia, Michela, and Gracelynn
(as well as our coach, Sonya)
