Help 75-Year-Old Martha Rebuild Her Home After Eaton Fire

Hello friends and family,

Martha Krecker, a 75-year-old who has lived in her home in Altadena for nearly 43 years. Martha bought her first home as a single mother of two, and it became a place of safety, warmth, and countless memories. Over the years, Martha has poured her heart into her home, creating a lifetime of moments that she treasures deeply.

In November 2023, Martha received a devastating diagnosis—uterine cancer. Despite her ongoing battle with this illness and the infusion therapy she’s been undergoing, Martha has continued to find strength in the memories she’s built within the walls of her home.

But on January 7, 2025, Martha lost everything in a matter of hours when the Eaton Canyon Fire ravaged her neighborhood. In a heartbeat, her home—her sanctuary—was reduced to ashes. The only things left standing were her garage and a lemon tree she’s cared for so lovingly over the years. With nothing but the clothes on her back, her purse, phone, and a few important documents, Martha watched as the life she knew was swept away by the flames.

For Martha, this is more than just a house. This is where she raised her children, where she celebrated holidays and milestones, and where she built her life. The thought of leaving this community, a place she’s called home for over four decades, is heartbreaking. Altadena is where her heart is, and moving away from it feels like losing a part of herself.

My name is Gloria Capra, and I’ve been a long-time friend of Martha’s daughter, Patty, and I know Martha personally. With Patty's permission, I’m creating this campaign to help ease the burden on both of them as they navigate the overwhelming challenge of rebuilding. The loss they’ve experienced is unimaginable.
