Help 722 house recover from break in
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Emily and I live with my 3 roommates, Crash, Volker and Carlton, Marvin the dog and Rune the cat in a house in Portland, OR. This has been my home for the past 11 years and until the past 4 years, I have always felt relatively safe here. That sense of safety has been taken away from all of us though.
On Monday, March 27th, someone broke into our home in the middle of the day with one of our roommates asleep in the basement. They stole $1,500 in cash from my room that was waiting to go to the ATM for rent and utilities, $300 from Crash that he had saved from utilities, jewelry worth a few hundred dollars, shoes and clothing along with trashing the house.
This is the second time that we have been burglarized, with someone home, in the last 2 years. I have also had my car broken into multiple times and there is an uptick in crime in our neighborhood, from gas siphoning to home invasions. We filed a police report for this incident (and for the others), but the Portland Police Department is not following up with burglaries in any way as they have closed their burglary department.
Like most people, we don't have the extra funds to cover what is a massive financial loss for us, nor do we have the money to make our home as secure as we'd like. So, this GoFundMe intends to raise money to replace the cash that we lost along with money to upgrade the security in and around our home.
We would like to install a fence along the front of our home so that no one can come onto our property. Additionally, we'd like to install smart locks, deadbolts and cameras both inside and outside for additional security. Our plan is based on advice from others in the neighborhood and research that we've done on the best ways to prevent home invasions. Right now we're estimating the cost of the fence to be around $2,000 including material and labor (based on our neighbor's fence).
If you'd rather help us purchase cameras, or other items to help improve security I've posted our Amazon wishlist below. We greatly appreciate any help you can give!
