Help For Pastor Fighting Cancer to Retire

Friends,

I'm writing on behalf of my dad, who needs help paying for his cancer treatments and debts. All donations are going to help him reduce the financial burdens he has accumulated from his cancer treatments and with help I pray that this will allow him to finally retire and focus on what's most important in life. The doctors say there is not much they can do, but we are praying for a miracle. Please consider a gift, any amount is appreciated!

My dad is currently volunteering as a pastor for a small church. The church can't afford to pay him much if anything but he happily serves, because he's not in it for money, and he's always done his best to faithfully serve God. He gives of his own time and money to support the church community, without asking for anything in return. If he is able to retire, he'll have more time to serve in his ministry and support the community.

My dad is now 70 years old, and if anyone deserves to enjoy retirement, it's him. He should have been able to retire years ago, but due to various financial obligations in relation to his cancer treatments and family needs, he's been stuck juggling a stressful, full-time job, along with the many challenges that come with fighting his cancer.

My dad has struggled with prostate cancer since 2009, enduring several difficult, invasive, uncomfortable treatments, and uncertainty about his health. Along with totally changing his lifestyle and diet in order to best fight the cancer, he has continued to do all he can to research and be informed on the best way to tackle his and our family's health challenges. He has a special diet of vegetables and fruit, which requires more work to prepare and means he can't enjoy the normal variety of foods that we all enjoy. He also takes 25 pills and supplements every day, along with other treatments as prescribed by his doctor. The costs for all of these things and more, are the reason he can't afford to live solely off social security and continues to work full time.

First thing about my dad and why he deserves to retire; he's worked hard all his life to provide for his family, and to help others when they needed support. He's a Vietnam veteran who even at a young age, volunteered (not drafted) because he has always had a strong sense of duty for his family, community and country. He's always sacrificed on behalf of others and has never been one to spend money on himself. He's worked honestly and faithfully all his life, and I remember times when he worked multiple jobs, sometimes 100 hours a week, just to make ends meet. For several years he commuted over 3 hours a day, getting up bright and early, then getting home late in the evening. He's been one of the greatest examples of selflessness, hard work and sacrifice that I know.

He raised a family with 5 children, and has been married for over 35 years. Doing his very best to provide for his family, he sacrificed his retirement savings more than once in order to make ends meet and instead of keeping savings, he's had to manage debts. Despite the challenges, he's made the most careful decisions with money, to make sure it's not wasted needlessly. However, his frugality always gives way to generosity and grace to those in need.

Despite all his struggles with work and cancer, he doesn't complain or blame anyone. His faith is strong and he continues to do his very best for his family. He's fighting the cancer for us and for God, more than for himself. His concerns are for those who he would leave behind, and he fights everyday to stay healthy, so he can continue to work and to serve.

I wish I had words to convey just how much he deserves to retire and to finally be able to enjoy being a grandparent, pastor and gardener, without worrying about meetings, or long commutes, or how much cancer treatments he can afford.

Our funding goal is to at least help him pay his latest round of cancer treatment costs. Our biggest prayer is that with God's help, he'll have a miracle and the prostate cancer will finally be gone.

My personal challenge and goal is to help him with his debts as much as possible, so that he can finally enjoy a well deserved retirement. I've done my best to help him consolidate and manage his debt in a way that best reduces the interest he's paying. I've done what I can to help pay down the high interest debt and other costs. I'll continue to do my best to achieve that goal on my part, but unfortunately I can't do it on my own. That's why I've decided to seek outside help on his behalf, with hopes he'll be blessed in return for all his selfless service.

Anything will be appreciated, whether it's a donation, or prayers, or sharing this link with others. We truly honor and respect any support. Thank you so much for your time and consideration!
