Help 7 Year-Old Gage Fight Stage 4 Brain Cancer
Donation protected
We're raising $60,000 to support 7-year-old Gage's fight against Stage 4 Medulloblastoma, a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer affecting approximately 500 children and adults in the US each year. We're devastated by the news and would love your support, regardless of the amount to help Gage and his family through this challenging time.
Gage's story:
On November 14, Gage's family noticed that his left eye was severely crossed and rushed him to urgent care. He was immediately transferred to the ER, where doctors discovered a golf ball-sized tumor at the back of his brain. Gage underwent emergency surgery to remove the tumor on November 15. Tragically, on December 5, doctors diagnosed Gage with Stage 4 Medulloblastoma and found a second, inoperable tumor deeper in his brain.
Since then, Gage has been in rehab, relearning how to walk and talk. Though he doesn't fully grasp the concept of cancer or the gravity of his situation like many kids his age, Gage has shown remarkable strength and resilience. His constant smile and joy from being surrounded by his family every day, despite the circumstances, have provided unexpected comfort to his family as they navigate this difficult time.
The road ahead:
Gage will leave rehab on December 12 to begin chemotherapy. His family will temporarily relocate from Albany to New York City for treatment at NY Proton Center and Sloan Kettering Memorial Hospital. Gage faces six weeks of daily photon beam treatment followed by 6-9 months of chemotherapy.
Due to the complexities of the US healthcare system and the rarity of this cancer, Gage's parents are uncertain about insurance coverage. Many essential aspects of Gage's care require insurance approval, including in-patient care, genetic testing, rehabilitation, clinical trials, and certain medications. Sadly, their insurance has denied coverage for essential genetic testing that Gage has already undergone which determined his exact diagnosis and treatment plan. They expect to face more insurance-related challenges throughout Gage's treatment.
How you can help:
While we're hoping that insurance will cover most of the medical bills (estimated to exceed $300K in 2025), we're aiming to raise at least $60,000 for potential out-of-pocket expenses, including:
- Genetic testing (up to $12,000)
- Photon beam treatment (approx. $180,000 for six weeks, at $6,000 per day, 5 days a week)
- Chemotherapy (approx. $90,000 for 6-9 months)
- Ongoing rehabilitation
- Treatment for the inoperable tumor and potential side effects
- Accommodation in NYC if Ronald McDonald Housing is unavailable
- Loss of wages due to FMLA leave
- Follow up visits, second opinions, etc
We're deeply grateful for your compassion and for taking the time to read Gage's story. Please share this with anyone you think might be able to help Gage fight Stage 4 Medulloblastoma.
This fundraiser was created on the behalf of Gage's parents. We thank you for your kindness and consideration.
