Help JJ Wong Fight Leukemia

Jeremy and Brooke Wong both serve as pastors in Chattanooga, Tennessee and are the parents of two wonderful children: daughter JJ and son Sammy. Just yesterday, seven year old JJ was diagnosed with leukemia and is expected to spend the next 3-4 weeks over Christmas in the hospital for initial treatments (with many months of treatments after that). It will be a long road ahead of them as a family with many medical bills and decreased income as Brooke takes care of JJ full time as she recovers. This Christmas season, you have the opportunity to bless a wonderful family and help them make it through this. Below is a letter from Jeremy and Brooke.

Dear friends and family,

On Monday, December 11 we took our sweet JJ into the sick clinic primarily to get a note for school as she had been out with fever for a few days. Within less than 24 hours, she was diagnosed with leukemia and admitted to TC Thompson in Chattanooga, Tennessee where I (Brooke) have been enrolled in hospital chaplaincy for the last 4 months, serving primarily in the children’s wing.

Suddenly we began living every parent’s nightmare and keep waking up hoping that it’s not real.

If you’ve been in close contact with us over the past year, you know that this transition from Ohio has been a difficult one but all pales in comparison to our current situation. Many of you have reached out and offered to help, wanting to know how. At first, we didn’t even know how to answer but are taking a moment to evaluate our priorities and solicit your help in the following ways.

Prayer - we believe in God’s power to heal both mind, body and soul and we desperately need all 3 of those things.

Family time - since we transitioned to TN, I (Brooke) have been unable to find a full time job. I have immensely enjoyed several part time ones but it is clear that I now need to be on the home front 24/7. We will need financial support to do this. Following God’s call to TN when the housing market was out of control decimated our savings and has truly built our faith but leaves us in a precarious position. We are reluctant to ask but frankly, we need help to live on one salary for the next year and to offset the many medical bills we are anticipating.

There may be opportunities for our respective church, friend and family groups to help make Christmas magical for both our daughter and our son as we spend it in the hospital or with meal trains when we get home in approximately a month but financial support would be the most practical help to allow mom (and dad) to stay at first the hospital and then home.

We appreciate all your texts, prayers and love to each one of us. We ask that all visits be held unless permission has been granted but please, please join us in praying for our baby girl at this time.
