6-yr-old Sarah Needs Brain Surgery
Donation protected
We, the Ladies of Lather want to help Janelle Davies and her 6-year-old daughter Sarah. Janelle is a single mom and the owner of Lather Salon & Spa in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
Sarah is in First Grade at Ramsey Elementary in Coeur d’Alene, ID and is a perky and precocious 6-year-old who loves unicorns, princesses, gymnastics, basketball, roller blading and riding her bike. Sarah has been diagnosed with Chiari Malformation Type 1, a condition in which brain tissue protrudes into your spinal canal. It occurs when part of your skull is abnormally small or misshapen, pressing on your brain and forcing it downward. Sarah has been suffering from intense headaches, dizziness and slowed reflexes on her left side.

Sarah’s malformation is severe and requires brain surgery. The surgery will take place on December 18, 2018, at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, WA. Surgery will reduce the pressure on the cerebellum and spinal cord, and restore the normal flow of spinal fluid. In addition, the surgeon will remove a small section of bone in the back of Sarah’s skull, and a patch will be sewn in place to enlarge the covering and provide more room for her growing brain. After the surgery, she will be put into an induced coma for 24 hours then stay at Sacred Heart Medical Center for an additional 5 days. Sarah can then go home to recover for 3 weeks, and hopefully return to school.
Sarah will struggle with this for the rest of her life. More surgeries may be likely. Sarah will also never be able to do normal childhood favorites, ever, like bouncing on a trampoline, sledding, playing basketball or riding horses. She will never ski or snowboard, she will never be able to enjoy amusement park rides and the list goes on and on. This is a life-changing condition for Sarah and Janelle.
As you can imagine this is a very scary time for Janelle and Sarah. The Ladies of Lather would like to help Janelle with her medical expenses to alleviate that worry from her so she can concentrate on helping Sarah to get through the surgery and recovery.
Janelle doesn’t see herself as our employer, but as our helper, helping each one of us to grow and succeed in our individual businesses. Now it is our turn to try and help her and Sarah.
Janelle is self-employed and needs your help with medical expenses as well as loss of wages during the month or more she will be out of work. Janelle is a strong and proud woman who would never ask for help so we, the Ladies of Lather are asking for her. While there is little that we can do to help minimize her worries emotionally, we would love to help alleviate the financial burden that this surgery and recuperation impose.
Any donation, big or small will make a big difference to Sarah’s future.
