Sonny's fight against HUS

Smart, funny 7 year old boy who contracted the insidious 0157-H7 strain of E. coli ... the day after Easter while visiting Family in Staten Island. His little brother , his Aunt and himself starting getting sick that was first assumed to be an intestinal virus or a bad stomach "bug." They were not as sick as Sonny.  His Grandmother drove the kids back home the next day to Pennsylvania where they reside.  When his stools began to show blood content his Granmother drove him to the Hospital and they sent them home thinking it was a virus. The blood in his stool was still there the next day, and again he went back to the Hospital. This time they Sent him by Ambulance to another Hospital 2 hours away. They ran test and it showed E-coli and he was once again tranferred to another hospital, Geisinger Hospital in Danville P.A  where Sonny's condition got worse and he  developed HUS, a very serious and potentially life-threatening complication known as Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome. Hus is a condition that results from the abnormal premature destruction of red blood cells. Once this process begins, the damaged red blood cells start to clog the filtering system in the kidneys, which caused him to start on dialysis. US requires treatment in the hospital. To ease signs and symptoms and to prevent further problems, treatment  included
Fluid replacement. Lost fluid and electrolytes must be carefully replaced because the kidneys aren't removing fluids and waste as efficiently as normal.
Red blood cell transfusions. Red blood cells, transfused through an intravenous (IV) needle, can help reverse signs and symptoms of HUS including chills, fatigue, shortness of breath, rapid heart rate, yellow skin and dark urine. Kidney dialysis  Sometimes dialysis is needed to filter waste and excess fluid from the blood. Dialysis is usually a temporary treatment until the kidneys begin functioning adequately again. It already damaged his Kidneys. Sonny is only allowed to drink 3oz of fluid every half hour, and has not eaten in the 2 weeksand not urinated since he has been in the Hospital. Sonny is a fighter and with "Prayers" and the "Lord" he will pull through this tough time.  His Mom and Grandmother are facing a long list of  financial pressures.                    Please help  Sonny  fight the battle of E. coli & HUS by removing some of the financial pressures from his family so that they can dedicate their time to their boy and do not have to worry about financial problems.                             The money raised in this campaign will be going to the Grandmother who will  be using it strictly for                          Traveling back and forth to the Hospital
House Payments, Living Expenses and Expenses for a Full Recovery  that this child needs to be a healthy little 6 year old boy.

Thank you so much for helping us get Sonny back to a normal life.
