Logan--James Logan McLeay--is a 5-year-old boy who seemed to be his energetic, happy self until Sunday, October 5, when his mom went to give him a bath and found him covered in bruises. She took him to the ER, and they found cancer. Leukemia. T-ALL to be specific. Within a few hours, he was at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital on the hematology-oncology floor. By Monday morning, he was having a platelet transfusion so that he could safely undergo a lumbar puncture, bone marrow biopsy, and chemo port implantation.

His mother, a dedicated billing manager for a medical practice, is in shock but is focused 100% on making sure Logan is well-cared for and feels safe and loved through what could be a scary process. Logan doesn't fully understand what's happening but is charming the caring, dedicated staff at Johns Hopkins All Children's with his bright spirit.

Good news: His oncologist predicts an 70-80% chance for a full recovery. Progress in treating this type of cancer means that it's often curable now when a generation ago, it would have been rapidly fatal.

Bad news: He will have to visit for biweekly chemo infusions for about two and a half years. His immune system is compromised so he cannot go to school or be around groups of other children.

Mom has used up her paid time off and is working from home and taking FMLA time to be with him. To add to the financial stress, she just purchased her first home, a fixer-upper, but she must put most projects on hold due to Logan's needs for a dust-free and sanitary environment.
