James is a sweet, bright, funny, and courageous 5-year-old from San Clemente, California who was recently diagnosed with H3K27M diffuse midline glioma (DMG)—a rare and aggressive brain cancer that primarily affects children.
In early August, while on vacation with his family, James suddenly became ill. A quick-thinking doctor ordered a CT scan that revealed an abnormal brain growth. James was immediately airlifted to Mass General Hospital, where surgeons removed as much of the tumor as possible. At first, doctors hoped it was low grade. But further testing revealed the H3K27M mutation, a devastating finding that changed everything.
After surgery, James endured unexpected seizures and was hospitalized again. At the end of August, he transferred to Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego, where his seizures stabilized and he began proton radiation therapy. He is now nearing the end of this frontline treatment, with his family preparing for the next step: enrollment in a clinical trial, depending on his response.
James has shown remarkable strength and spirit throughout this battle, inspiring everyone around him with his resilience. But his fight is only beginning. Future treatment will likely involve additional hospital stays, out-of-state travel, and clinical trials lasting many months. James’ family is facing heavy financial burdens, including living expenses while both parents take extended time off work to stay with him, temporary relocations near treatment centers, and medical and rehabilitation needs not fully covered by insurance.
This fundraiser gives James the best chance possible—allowing his parents to focus on caring for him instead of bills. No donation is too small. Every gift helps James continue this fight and gives his family strength during the hardest time of their lives.
