My close friend’s mother, Suparna Dasi, is only 42 years old and lives in India with her husband, young son, and elderly mother in a small, humble home.

Whenever my family and I have visited India, Suparna Dasi and her family have looked after us with warmth, love, and selflessness. They’ve welcomed us like family, even while quietly struggling themselves.

She has struggled with poor eyesight since childhood but sadly her eyesight has now reached a critical stage. She has developed a severe cataract in one eye and painful swelling in the other, causing her vision to blur and fade each day. Doctors have warned that if she does not undergo urgent surgery, she will go completely blind.

Her operation — an eye replacement procedure — is scheduled for November 6th 2025, but the cost of surgery, medicines, and recovery care comes to around ₹2 lakh (≈ £1,900 / $2,400). For a family earning less than £20 a month, this is an impossible amount to afford.

Without this operation, Suparna risks losing her vision permanently, making it impossible for her to care for her child or support her elderly mother. Yet with timely treatment, she can regain her sight and quality of life.
