Hello friends and family of the Sokols. As you may already know, our sweet Madie has hit a rough patch. Madie is a bright light in this world, but she has struggled with various issues from a young age. Kelly and Jeff are the MOST amazing parents, and they have fought hard for Madie her entire life. They have been at her side and provided everything she has needed for each new challenge she has faced: a private school for kids with specific learning disabilities, various therapies/counseling, a Dyslexia tutor, etc. Though Madie struggles in many areas, she is also incredibly gifted in others. Kelly and Jeff have provided SO many outlets for Madie to exercise her talents, like voice lessons, acting lessons, and intensive theater camps. Over the past several months, Madie has fallen in with a rough crowd, spending considerable time with them, and joining them in dangerous and unhealthy activities. With Madie's tendency toward addiction, and the fact that she will be a legal "adult" in a year, Kelly and Jeff were prompted to act quickly to put an intervention plan in place for her. They have sought counsel from various experts on what Madie needs to heal, and they have been advised to start with wilderness therapy. Madie left on July 2nd for a program in Utah called "Second Nature." Participants typically stay between 9-12 weeks. You can read more about it here: second-nature.com
As you can imagine, sending her was one of the hardest decisions they have ever made, but they remain confident that they needed to take immediate action. While researching therapy options, Kelly and Jeff quickly learned that intensive rehab programs come with a high price tag. We are coming to you, our dear friends and family, and asking if you would prayerfully consider helping out financially. Depending on how long Madie stays at Second Nature, and depending on if there is a secondary placement at a therapeutic boarding school, costs could run as high as $100,000 +. They have humbly accepted my offer to assist in fundraising, to offset some of the cost for their family. We understand that these are trying times for many families right now, so if you aren't in a place to give financially, prayers and words of encouragement would be gladly accepted!
