(Espanol abajo) Once again ICE has taken a parent, a caregiver from his children. In early December Josue left for work early in the morning and stopped at a 7-11 in New Carrollton to pick up some food. As he left the store he noticed that his car was being followed. ICE stopped him, detained him and quickly deported him to his home country of Guatemala without a thought for the situation of his family, his contributions or his dreams. His deportation meant that his three young people were left to fend for themselves.

His 20 year old daughter Ariel (pseudonym) is doing all she can to keep her and her siblings, aged 18 and 15, together. The younger kids are both in high school and are US Citizens. Gratefully a friend has let the threesome stay in her living room while they get their bearings and figure out how to survive without their father’s care at home.

Ariel has a new job and hopes to be able to find a small apartment for her family. She also wants to do what she can to create stability for her younger siblings so they can stay in high school. Her 18-year-old sister is on the honor roll and due to graduate in June, and her 15-year is missing his dad terribly. These are tall orders for a 20 year old.

Una vez más, el ICE ha separado a un padre, cuidador y proveedor de sus hijos. A principios de diciembre, Josué salió temprano al trabajo y se detuvo en un 7-Eleven en New Carrollton para comprar comida. Al salir, notó que su auto era seguido. ICE lo detuvo y lo deportó rápidamente a su país natal, Guatemala, sin preocuparse por la situación de su familia, sus contribuciones al país, ni sus sueños. Ariel tiene un nuevo trabajo a medio tiempo y espera encontrar un pequeño apartamento para su familia. También quiere hacer todo lo posible para que sus hermanos menores tengan estabilidad y puedan continuar sus estudios de preparatoria. Su hermana está en el cuadro de honor y se graduará en junio, y su hermano extraña inmensamente a su papá. ¡Esta es una tarea difícil para una joven de tan solo 20 años!
