Help 3 Year Old Sydney With Her Leukemia Battle

Meet 3 year old Sydney Ryndak. Until a few weeks ago, she was your typical toddler: energetic, carefree, playful, and full of laughter. Sydney’s biggest worry in the world was whether she would get to watch her favorite TV show, Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood.

This all changed on January 12th, 2023, when Sydney went to the doctor for some rather mild symptoms. After bloodwork raised immediate concerns, Sydney was rushed to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Further testing confirmed what the doctors feared: Sydney was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL).

The treatment plan laid out for Sydney will be an extremely long and difficult process. Sydney has already started her treatments, which include chemotherapy, blood transfusions, and spinal taps. Although she is brave beyond her years and is handling all of this like a little superhero, no child or family should have to go through something like this.

After two initial weeks in the hospital, Sydney was allowed to go home. Her twin brother Caleb, and her 6 year old brother Lucas were so excited to have her back home so they could be a family again. However sadly, just 3 days later, she was admitted back into Lutheran General because of an extremely serious infection. Understandably, Sydney’s parents, Russ and Tori, never leave her, and alternate days at the hospital, with one of them always by her side.

Sydney’s treatment plan will consist of weekly chemo treatments for the next 7 months, and then monthly chemotherapy treatments for 2 years after that. Sydney will also require occasional spinal taps, bone marrow checks, and procedures related to any unforeseen complications that may arise throughout the duration of her treatment, including the possibility of additional hospital stays.

Over the past 3 weeks, the outpouring of support from people asking how they can help has been heartwarming and humbling. Since so many people have asked how they can help Russ and Tori, we decided to start this page for them. Hopefully, this will help alleviate some of their financial burden during this difficult time and help Russ and Tori focus on the most important thing- Sydney and her fight against this relentless disease that has overtaken her life.
