Wij zijn Kitty en Kimara, en komen al een aantal jaar op Zakynthos.

Tijdens onze vakantie in juni op het Griekse eiland Zakynthos kwamen we oog in oog te staan met iets wat ons diep raakte: een zieke moederpoes en haar drie pasgeboren kittens, vechtend voor hun leven in een harde wereld.

De moederpoes was zo verzwakt dat ze haar kittens niet meer kon verzorgen. Haar lichaam was op, haar ogen dof, haar ademhaling zwaar. Gelukkig konden wij haar liefdevol vangen en met hulp van een lokale dierenarts de medische zorg geven die ze zo hard nodig had. Haar drie kleine kittens hadden het nog zwaarder. Door ernstige ooginfecties konden ze nauwelijks zien. Eén van hen is ternauwernood gered toen hij bijna in een zwembad verdronk. Elke dag was voor hen een gevecht om te overleven.

We konden ze niet achterlaten, dus besloten we om ze in fostercare te laten plaatsen.

Maar voordat ze naar hun 4-ever home kunnen, moeten ze nog minstens 6 weken in Zakynthos blijven voor opvang en medische verzorging: oogdruppels, antibiotica, vaccinaties, voeding, paspoorten, chippen en uiteindelijk hun vlucht naar hun nieuwe thuis.

Daarom vragen wij om jullie hulp.

Zodat deze drie moedige kittens – overlevers, straks veilig en gezond geadopteerd kunnen worden. Heb je niet de financiële mogelijkheid om hieraan bij te dragen, wil je dit bericht dan aub voor ons delen.

We are Kitty and Kimara, and we’ve been visiting Zakynthos for several years now.

During our vacation in June on the Greek island of Zakynthos, we were confronted with something that deeply moved us: a sick mother cat and her three newborn kittens, fighting for their lives in a harsh world.

The mother cat was so weak that she could no longer care for her kittens. Her body was exhausted, her eyes dull, her breathing labored. Thankfully, we were able to gently catch her and, with the help of a local vet, give her the medical care she so desperately needed. Her three tiny kittens were in even worse shape. Severe eye infections left them barely able to see. One of them was rescued just in time when it nearly drowned in a swimming pool. Every day was a fight for survival.

We couldn’t just leave them behind, so we decided to have them placed in foster care.

But before they can go to their forever homes, they need to stay in Zakynthos for at least six more weeks for continued care and medical treatment: eye drops, antibiotics, vaccinations, food, passports, microchipping, and eventually their flight to a new home.

That’s why we’re asking for your help.

So that these three brave little kittens – true survivors – can soon be adopted into safe and loving homes, healthy and strong.
