Help Westfield Olympian get to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics

2x Judo Olympian Nick Delpopolo of Westfield needs help getting to important Olympic Qualifying events in order to make his third Olympic team.  Making the Olympic team is basically a points race. Judo athletes have a world tour with a points structure similar to tennis where athletes must attend various tournaments around the world, with points given for winning matches and medals. In June of 2020 the top 18 athletes from different Countries with the most points qualify for the Olympics.

Nick does not receive any funding or financial support from USA Judo, the sports National Governing Body and must pay out of pocket to attend these important Olympic qualifying tournaments.  Each tournaments expenses include airfare, hotel, meals, training camp and all the incidentals that come with international travel. Each individual event costs around $3,000.00 to attend and in order to qualify he must attend at least 12 events a year.

Nick just returned home from Lima, Peru where he won the bronze medal for Team USA at the Pan American Games and he is heading to Tokyo August 22nd for the World Championships. In the coming months he needs to attend big Olympic Qualifying events in Uzbekistan, Brazil, Abu Dhabi, Japan, Israel and France just to name a few.

Early Years in Westfield
Nick was adopted by an amazing Westfield family, Dominick and Joyce Delpopolo when he was a toddler. Four years they later they went on to adopt a daughter from the same Orphanage, Helen Delpopolo. Nick and his sister went to McKinley Elementary School, followed by Edison Middle School. He placed 1st in the NJ Wrestling State Championships for Westfield PAL Wrestling program in elementary school.

The Delpopolo’s have deep rooted seeds in the Westfield and Cranford community, his mother has been a volunteer in Westfield and is a retired Cranford teacher, his sister, Helen has raised thousands of dollars for others in need through Gofundme. She currently co-runs an Irrigation business out of Westfield, as well as being the youngest and first female president of the United Sates Sumo Federation. The Delpopolos have been helping support Nick financially for his dreams of becoming the first ever USA Male Olympic Champ in Judo! He trains 7 days a week multiple times a day. During his limited free time, he volunteers, teaching kids judo and speaking in schools on and off the mat.

Help Me Spread the Word
I am hoping that the Westfield and local communities will rally around our hometown Olympian and help him raise the funds needed to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Lets band together to help sponsor the first ever USA Male Olympic Champ in Judo! In an era of consistent bad news, I look forward to next summer when we are all cheering Nick on as he competes!

Please donate if you can and help us spread the word and rally as a community to get Westfield's Nick Delpopolo to the Olympics!

My name is Donna Vallario and I am a friend of the Delpopolo family.  All donations being made will go directly to Nick.
