On Monday, May 12th, 2025, the one and only Cash Kiefer Thomason was hit by a car while riding a motorcycle. 5 days later, he awoke in the ICU to learn that his right leg had been severed in the accident, and his left leg had been broken in 3 places, including a compound fracture of the tibia which nearly cost him his left foot. During his 46-day stay at the hospital, Cash underwent 21 surgeries, one to set his left leg with titanium rods, and 20 to clean and close the wound from the above-knee amputation of his right leg. While his other injuries (2 fractured ribs, a fractured cheekbone, moderate nerve damage in his brain, and a few pulmonary embolisms) might pale in comparison to the gravity of losing a limb, it wasn’t always clear that would be the case. For the first 5 days, he was kept heavily sedated in the ICU - no one knew how much the nerve damage in his brain would affect him, as the family was told it could take months (or never) for his true personality to return. Each time the nurses attempted to remove his breathing tube, his oxygen levels would plummet - would he be able to breathe on his own again? Between the nerve damage and the breathing tube, we were told he may not even remember how to speak.
But hey, it’s Cash, remember? Like the beast he is, he woke up on that 5th day and pulled his own breathing tube right out. And then asked when he could “check out.”
It would be another 41 days. Fighting infection. Fighting the pain of the fresh staples after every procedure. Fighting the hematoma complication (the first time the surgeons got the wound closed, his body produced a soda can’s worth of excess blood, which pushed on the staples from the inside-out…so, they had to go back in, drain it, and start the closing process again). Fighting. Fighting to go home.
Thursday, June 26th, 2025. Home. Where the fight continues. Anyone who knows Cash knows he is insanely strong, in both body and mind (and that he works out when he’s bored). He had walked on his left leg a few times while in the hospital, but now the real training begins. 6 weeks of physical and occupational therapy, and Cash was walking around the block on his left leg. He works out every day: lifting weights, using the TotalGym, and recently the Peloton! As of August 15th, he has officially graduated to using crutches. He is currently in the process of shrinking down his right leg to get prepared for wearing a prosthetic.
Cash Thomason is a legend in the Harley-Davidson world, especially in media and advertising. Wrangling bikes is his livelihood. If you’ve ever had the pleasure of working with him, you know one thing: he's "got you." He will get it done, and he’ll make it look easy. And that’s how he’s navigated this horrific tragedy - with an unbeatable mindset, especially for a 25 year-old. We are eternally grateful that Cash is here with us, inspiring us to be our best selves, and rise above the BS.
For Cash to continue being Cash, it is imperative that he gets a top-notch prosthetic leg. He has big goals - to skateboard again, to get back to the job, to step into the new him. We are asking for donations to help pay for his medical expenses such as co-pays and insurance premiums, as he currently does not have a source of income and does not qualify for state disability benefits.
Thank you for your continued support! #CashforCash <3
