My name is Kimberly Kambua and I live in Kenya. I recently completed my high school education with flying colors, earning a cumulative A– mark, and was honored to be among the top candidates in the country. This achievement opened the doors for me to join the University of Nairobi one of the greatest universities in Kenya to pursue my dream course: Geospatial Engineering.
For me, this is more than just an admission; it’s the beginning of a lifelong dream to use engineering and technology to create solutions that can help my community and the world at large. As a young woman in STEM, I am determined to break barriers and inspire other girls to follow their dreams in science and engineering.
However, despite my academic success, my dream is now at risk. I come from a humble background in a small town in Kenya (Isiolo). My family’s total earnings barely sustain us. The minimum cost to begin my studies is Ksh 250,000 (about $2,050 USD), which will cover my tuition fees, a laptop to support my studies, and basic upkeep.
As a family, we have managed to raise Ksh 50,000, but we still have Ksh 200,000 ($1,650 USD) to go. Without this support, I may lose this golden opportunity to join university and build the future I have worked so hard for. The University of Kenya’s tuition deadline is 30th August 2025.
Your contribution no matter how small will go a long way in helping me take this crucial first step. By supporting me, you are not just funding my education; you are investing in a determined young woman who is ready to give back to society through innovation, problem-solving, and engineering solutions.
Let’s make this dream possible. Together, we can ensure I walk through those university gates and into a brighter future.

Note: This fundraiser is managed by Ben Schmidt, a long-time friend of Kimberly Kumbua’s family through her older brother, Lewis (who you can see hugging Kimberly in the header picture). Lewis was sponsored by Ben and his parents through Lewis’ high school and college education from 2014-2021. Lewis reached out to Ben in 2025 about helping his sister, Kimberly, after she received her acceptance letter from the University of Nairobi for Engineering in July 2025. 100% of funds gathered by this fundraiser will be transferred to Kenya to support Kimberly on her educational journey.
