Hi, my name is Brittany Carson, and I’m reaching out on behalf of a brave 17-year-old girl named Shanai Burton who was in a car accident in April that triggered Psychogenic Non-Epileptic Seizures (PNES) — a condition that causes sudden, seizure-like episodes without the electrical disruptions typical of epilepsy. These episodes are unpredictable and often dangerous, impacting her ability to live a safe, independent life.

PNES can be extremely debilitating, and for Shanai, it has disrupted not only her health, but also her education, freedom, and confidence. Simple tasks like walking through a store, going to school, or even being home alone can quickly become scary and unsafe.

After extensive discussions with doctors and therapists, one solution has stood out: a trained service dog.

A service dog can detect changes in her body before a seizure occurs, alert others for help, provide deep pressure therapy during episodes, and bring comfort during anxiety attacks. This dog will be a guardian, a grounding companion, and a key to gaining back her independence.

However, the cost of a fully trained service dog can range from $10,000 to $15,000, not including travel, gear, and ongoing care.
